We carry a wide variety of mediums
Watercolor Gouache & Blending Medium Slows the drying of water colours, allowing more time for blending. Extends working time even in hot climates. For maximum effect dilute with medium only. Can also be mixed with water. Granulation Medium This increases the granulation of colour, giving a mottled appearance to colours which usually give a smooth wash (e.g. Winsor Blue), or enhancing the effect of granulating colours (e.g. French Ultramarine) For maximum effect dilute colour generously with medium alone. Always work with painting horizontal. Watercolor Ground Let your imagination soar! For too long, the beautiful medium of watercolor has been confined to a paper-behind-glass niche. Now, with this exciting new ground, anything you've dreamed of painting with watercolor can become a reality. It’s easy to use—just brush it on—and incredibly versatile. Here are a few tips for getting the best results. Preparation: Absorbent or semi-absorbent surfaces require no special prep before brushing on DANIEL SMITH Watercolor Ground. These include paper, canvas and other fabrics, wood, plaster, shells and hardboard. Non-absorbent surfaces such as metal, plastic or glass should be lightly abraded with sandpaper or steel wool before brushing on the Watercolor Ground. Application: We recommend using Watercolor Ground straight from the container. It has a thick, brushable consistency. Use a soft-haired synthetic brush for a smooth finish or a hog bristle brush for a more textured finish. Since the ground is pigmented with Titanium White pigment, one coat will cover most surfaces; very absorbent surfaces such as unfinished soft wood may require two coats, allowing the first coat to cure before adding the second. Wash brushes immediately after use. Curing: Let Watercolor Ground dry and cure for at least 24 hours. This allows it to attain the right degree of absorption. Painting: DANIEL SMITH Watercolor Ground works beautifully with watercolors and thinned acrylics. Because it creates a surface more absorbent than paper, you will want to use less water with your paint. Experiment and see what works best for you. It also works beautifully with DANIEL SMITH Masking Fluid. Finishing: As with all watercolors, your work on DANIEL SMITH Watercolor Ground will need to be fixed if it will not be framed behind glass. GOLDEN Archival Aerosol MSA Varnish with UVLS is an excellent spray varnish that will protect your work on any surface. Use it at room temperature in a well-ventilated area. Masking Fluid Our Watercolor Masking Fluid is easy to use with the bottle applicator, the included 5, fine-point applicator tips or with an inexpensive brush. Masking Fluid makes an impervious barrier to protect your watercolor paper and preserve the white areas by blocking watercolor washes from flowing into areas you don’t want leaving crisp, clean edges. Our Masking Fluid applies as an off-white color and dries to a transparent caramel color so that you can see it while working, and still be unobtrusive while working on your painting. Easy to remove when Masking Fluid has dried with a rubber cement pick-up or even with your clean fingers. Be careful though, about leaving oils from your fingers when rubbing off the dried Masking Fluid, oils from your fingers can interfere with new applications of watercolor. Once the Masking Fluid had been removed, either keep the white areas white or add fresh watercolor onto the preserved white area to retain maximum watercolor luminosity. Art Masking Fluid A pigmented liquid composed of rubber latex and pigment, for masking areas of work needing protection when colour is applied in broad washes. Do not apply on damp or soft sized paper. Remove as soon as possible after application. Brushes can be cleaned if washed immediately with water after use. Iridescent Medium Gives pearlescent or glitter effects to water colours and is particularly effective when mixed with transparent colours, especially over dark backgrounds. Mix with transparent water colour or apply over a dried wash. Shake well before use. Lifting Preparation Lifting Preparation allows dry washes, including staining colours, to be more easily lifted from paper with a wet brush or sponge. It is an ideal preparation with which beginners can prime the paper allowing corrections to be made to their painting Ox Gall Liquid A wetting agent used to improve flow when mixed directly with water colours. It can also be used on very hard sized papers to reduce surface tension. Add 3-4 drops per cup of water. Permanent Masking Fluid A non-removable, water repellent liquid wax designed for masking specific areas of paper, making them resistant to water. When dry, the medium will repel superimposed washes. Excellent for detail. Apply directly to the paper or tint with small amounts of water colour. Allow to dry completely before over painting. Texture Medium Contains fine particles that add fine texture and can be used to give the impression of depth and structure to water colour paintings. Apply directly to paper or mix with water colour. Shake well before use. Use Gum Arabic with Pearl Ex, or any other dry pigment, and water to make watercolor paints. Gum Arabic will gradually increase tack as it dries. Easily cleans up with water. Dried cakes of Gum Arabic paint mixture can be reconstituted with water. Used for washes, glazes and stamping. Size: 1 fl oz/29 ml Instructions: Add dry Gum Arabic to pigment in ratio of 1 part gum to 4 parts pigment. Add water to desired consistency and mix. Ratio of gum to pigment may vary from color to color.
